Our saunas begin with how you want to feel, not with a fixed design. From that starting point, we shape the space around you - whether that becomes a quiet two - person retreat or a full eight - person sauna and changing suite with copper shower and contrast therapy space.
We design and build each project in - house, bringing together design, craft and installation as a single, considered process.
We build our saunas in two architectural forms - Hut and Block. Hut and Block can combine with our wellness building Pavilion, to create the ultimate expression of a cohesive elemental architecture.
Both forms can be stand alone, combined, extended or adapted. Changing rooms, Outdoor showers, and contrast therapy spaces are considered as part of a single, coherent experience of heat and cold.
Hut and Block
Hut - A fully insulated sauna designed for efficiency and ease of use, with a faster heat up time. Hut is available with wood fired or electric heat, offering flexibility for different settings and patterns of use.
Block - A solid timber sauna, built from full section walls. It heats and holds warmth differently - creating a deeper more immersive ritual. Block is only available as a wood - fired sauna building.

Block is an elemental wood fired sauna where heat is built and held differently -creating a deeper, more immersive Loyly. Hand crafted with half lapped corners, combining a refined aesthetic with traditional timber joinery. Defined by its calm monolithic presence.

Block by darkling and wild is a bold elemental sauna defined by solid larch walls and strong half lapped corners that express both strength and craft. A medieval doorway anchors the form, while a large glazed window, paired with a sliding louvered screen, balances openness with privacy. All sits beneath a dark, quietly protective roof.

Block is a solid timber walled sauna crafted for permanence, precision and warmth - an architectural retreat grounded in material, structure and quiet elemental experience. Hut in its purest form can become a space efficient sauna designed specifically for compact gardens or patios. Its clean pitched form is wrapped in dark vertical cladding , with a deeply recessed fully glazed front which draws you into a warm light filled interior. Heat and Cold
At darkling & wild, we recognise that sauna is not new. It’s a simple, proven ritual -heat, followed by cold, repeated over time. In heat, the body works. Heart rate rises, circulation increases, muscles release. In cold everything contracts. The system resets. Breathing sharpens. Awareness returns. Moving between the two creates contrast. That contrast is where the benefit lies. Used regularly, this cycle can;support cardiovascular health,improve circulation, aid recovery after physical effort and reduce stress promoting deeper sleep.

Hut and changing pod creates a mid sized sauna. Designed for up to six bathers. It features practical changing area and integrated log store, supporting a seamless wood -fired experience. With its raw aesthetic, Natural materials, and honest detailing, it embodies a grounded, traditional character built for enduring outdoor use. Bespoke options available.

This solid walled sauna has a connected oak framed - covered changing area together with a coffee machine and relaxation seating.
A sculptural copper shower brings warmth and quiet luxury to the changing space, elevating the everyday ritual. A louvered screen adds privacy while softly filtering light, maintaining a subtle connection to the out doors.
Choose between our dark atmospheric sauna interior, with rich Thermo Alder benches and elemental planked walls. Creating a quiet contrast between warmth and the cool landscape beyond.
By contrast, choose the lighter more contemporary sauna interior which is more refined and architectural -clean lines, balanced proportions and a lighter more controlled material palette.
Our solid copper cold plunge offers a striking elemental counterpoint to the heat of the sauna. Used as a part of contrast therapy, the rapid shift between hot and cold helps stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, and support recovery - leaving the body refreshed, the mind sharpened, and the experience deeply invigorating.
